Surface Technology 'Cures' Customers' Large Component Needs With 45 ft. Oven At New Scottish Site
Equipped specifically to process ever larger components in the oil and gas industry, the UK’s largest curing oven of its kind has been unveiled at the opening of Surface Technology’s new site in Renfrew, Scotland.
The prestigious launch took place at the leading specialist supplier of high performance surface treatment’s newly acquired premises on Westway Park, Scotland’s largest fully enclosed industrial distribution and office park.
Surface Technology, part of Norman Hay plc, invested in the new site to meet increasing customer demand following significant contract wins.
It was opened by the CEO of Norman Hay plc, Vic Bellanti and Derek Mackay, MSP. Other attendees included David Rennie from Scottish Enterprise, which has provided funding for Surface Technology to develop their existing Scottish operations, along with other Westway Park members and around 50 Surface Technology customers including One Subsea, X-Cel Superturn, FMC Technologies, Oil States Industries and Sheffield Forgemasters Engineering Limited.
Derek Mackay MSP for Renfrewshire North & West said: “Surface Technology is a leading global player and it is pleasing to see development at this new state-of-the-art facility at Westway Park. Already it is bringing additional investment and jobs to Renfrewshire and the west of Scotland.”
Where previously key components such as length adjustment joints (LAJ’s) and riser systems from UK customers would have needed to be shipped overseas for coating, the new 30,000 square ft. site now allows for this work to be carried out locally avoiding major transportation costs. It includes a 100 tonne overhead crane, a 45 ft. long curing oven and a 45 ft. shot-blasting room designed to handle large components for the deep-water offshore oil and gas industry. Thermal spray aluminium (TSA), subsea paint, phosphating, Molycote, Sermaguard and Xylan processes can all be carried out on-site.
Vic Bellanti added: “Surface Technology has invested in this new site specifically to service and support the changing infrastructure, technologies and capability required by the offshore oil and gas industry and renewable energy industries.
“It was great to see so many businesses turn out to support us in Renfrew, and Westway Park has been great in ensuring that all of our needs have been met. We look forward to working with both our existing and new oil and gas customers and showcasing the great potential that this site has for the industry.”
